SKINS - Skins are available in this event and participation is $10. You will find a lockbox and envelopes at the pro shop counter. To enter the skins game, place $10 in an envelope, write your name and flight on it, and drop it in the lockbox.

 

RULE CORRECTION - During the Saturday, March 11 meeting, the board incorrectly said that the silver tee box on the sixth hole may be used as a drop zone. During the 2023 season, there is no drop zone on the sixth hole unless stated otherwise for a specific event. PAY AS YOU GO - If you registered for the 2023 season as a Pay As You Go member, you will receive an email with payment instructions one or two days before the event.

The Agony and The Ecstacy

 

Are you ready to test your game and enjoy the misery that comes from playing from the tips?  Welcome to The Agony.  All players, regardless of handicap, will play from the Black Tees so get your long ball ready.

 

This is a two day event and tournament leaders will be determined by a two day cummulative score.  That doesn't mean you can't play on just one day or the other for fun.  If your schedule only allows you to play in one of the two events, you're more than welcome to sign up for just one.  However, you will not be eligible for any of the prize money.

The Agony and The Ecstacy

 

To provide a day 2 reprieve from what you went through on day 1, The Ecstacy is supposed to make you feel good about your game.  So instead of the tips, every player will tee of from the Silver Tees.  But don't be too confident, every year we hear stories of players scoring better from the tips than from Silver.

Format: 2 Man Team: 6-6-6 (see below for further explanation)

This event is a 2-man team format so we will combine flights.  The Blue-Blue/Silver and Blue/Gold divisions will merge into a single flight, and the Gold and Black divisions will merge into another flight.  You may choose your partner; HOWEVER, if you pair with someone who is not in the same combined group as you (IE: you're a gold tee player, and you choose a blue tee player), I have sole discretion to chose the flight and tee boxes you'll be playing from.

2023 BMGC Match Play Championship Overview

 

Everyone’s favorite tournament is back!

 

Once again, we anticipate this year’s tournament to be a competitive and fun event.

 

● Entry deadline: high noon, May 18, 2023.

● Entry fee for this event is $20 to be paid at time of registration via credit card.

o Fees paid previously (initial membership fee or individual round pay as you go fees) do not cover the prize fund for this event.

o No additional $15 Pay As You Go Fee is required for match play rounds.

● This is a Single Elimination Tournament, winners move on to the next round and there is no consolation bracket.

● Brackets will be randomly drawn when we have reached the entry deadline. All winners of one or more rounds will earn prize money as CASH PAYOUTS. Payout amounts will be based on the number of the participants.

● Play will commence on Monday, May 22, 2023. All rounds will allow for a three week window to complete the match. All matches must be completed by Sunday evening of the 3 rd week.

o If a player is unable to play a match they may concede the match to their opponent.

o Unless a competitor concedes the match, ANY MATCH NOT COMPLETED ON TIME WILL BE DETERMINED BY A COIN TOSS. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

● Matches can be played at any course agreed on by both competitors.

● Brackets will be updated by email.

● This event does not contribute points towards the Z-Cup standings.

● Players will post all scores for handicap purposes.

2023 BMGC Match Play Championship Specifics

 

Player Responsibilities:

 

     1. You are responsible for setting up your own tee times for your match. Each match must be completed by the date noted in the individual flight pairings.

     2. Once the match is completed, the winner must send an email with the results to the Match Play Coordinator: Jason Cole (jelli24@msn.com). Please include the course, tee boxes played, and final match score. 

     3. A delayed match affects all subsequent matches. Therefore, extension of the match play schedule will not be permitted. All competitors have an equal chance of injury, urgent family business, travel, etc.

     4. If a match is not completed by the scheduled date, a competitor can agree to forfeit the match. In the event the players cannot agree, the Match Play Coordinator will decide the outcome based on a coin toss. The Home competitor (listed on top of the bracket) will be heads, the Visitor will be tails.

     5. It is each players’ responsibility to know and play by the USGA Rules of Golf/Decisions for match play. Here is the link https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/topics/match-play.html .

 

Handicaps:

 

     1. The most recent revision of your CGA handicap on the day of the match will be used to determine the number of strokes a player receives or gives.

     2. Both players will mutually decide on the course to play for their match.

     3. Both players must also mutually decide on the tees you will play from for your match.

     4. Playing from different tees is permitted if agreed upon by both competitors.

     5. Handicaps are to be adjusted for the course and tees you play.

     6. The higher handicap will receive the stroke differential on the lowest handicap holes.

● Ex. Joe is a 10, Jack is a 16 – Jack receives 6 strokes starting at the #1 handicap hole.

● If you are playing Broadlands GC, strokes will be taken from handicap holes as determined using the BMGC score cards, which will be available at the pro shop.

     7. To determine the correct playing handicap for each player, we strongly suggest using a handicap calculator which can be found within the USGA GHIN app or online at GHIN.com or USGA.org

● You may also ask the professional at the course to calculate playing handicaps for you OR

● Contact the BMGC Board of Directors prior to your match and we can calculate them for you. 

 

Rules for Match Play:

 

     1. All play shall be in accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf/Decisions and the BMGC Local Rules (if played at The Broadlands). Match play decisions and penalties can differ from stroke play; it is each players’ responsibility to know and play by the rules of match play.

     2. A match is won when one player is up more holes than there are holes left to play.

     3. In the case of a tie:

● Immediate sudden death play is recommended if the golf course will allow it.

● The R&A recommends starting on hole 1, some courses may have to send you out on 10

● If a player is unable to complete the sudden death match, the contestants can agree to schedule the sudden death playoff for another date as long as the match is completed by the deadline date.

● Otherwise, there will be a coin flip to determine the winner.

     o The player on the top of the bracket is designated as heads and the bottom player is tails.

     o A third party should perform the coin toss.

     4. Late for tee time: If a player is late for his tee time, there is a grace period of 5 minutes with no “loss-of-hole” penalty. If the player shows later than 5 minutes but less than 15 minutes late, there will be a loss of one hole penalty assessed. If a player does not call his opponent or the course to say he’ll be late, the “no-show” player forfeits the match after 15 minutes beyond the scheduled tee time.

     5. The match must go at least 9 holes in order to be official in the case of bad weather or darkness; however, continuance or stoppage of play must be mutual and of good judgment. If play cannot be resumed within a mutually agreed upon time that day or scheduled for another date before the round deadline, the winner will be the player that was leading after the last completed hole.

This a 2-Man Event with guests obviously welcome. There will be 3 divisions:

(a) Member Guest with Handicap

(b) Member Guest without Handicap

(c) Member-Member

 

If your guest has a handicap, please indicate a GHIN number, if your guest does not have a handicap, please report 3-5 rounds.  Include the course, teebox played and score.  It makes for better scoring if you give actual scores rather than giving "he shoots around..."

 

Please sign up as early as possible so we have an idea how many meals the course needs to make.

Format: 2-Man Net Best Ball

Starting Time: 7:30 AM

The format is a 2-man event in which your team score will be the lower of the two NET scores on each hole. 

 

Since we're playing in pairs, flight sizes will be cut in half. Therefore, we will likely combine the Black and Gold flights as well as the Gold/Blue and Blue-Blue/Silver flights resulting in 2 larger flights.  It also allows us to mix up the pairings and create foursomes you wouldn't typically play with.

 

You may choose your partner HOWEVER, that partner must be from the correct flight.  If you're a Black or Gold tee player, choose someone from Black or Gold. If you're in the Gold/Blue or Blue-Blue/Silver flight, pick someone from one of those two flights.  Also, please confirm with who you're choosing that they're on board.  If you pick someone and they pick someone else, someone's feelings are going to get hurt and I will not be responsible for that. 

If you do not specify anyone to play with, we will pair you with another player.

Club Championship

 

Format:  Invidividual Stroke Play, Z CUP MAJOR(50 Points for 1st Place)

Gentlemen,

The following are key points for the club championship that everyone needs to be aware of.

 

• By signing up for Saturday, you're being entered into both Saturday and Sunday's events.  However, if you're only available for one of the two days and would simply like to play for fun on one of the two days, you may but you will only be eligible for skins, no tournament payouts.  Simply send me a message as to which day you're playing.
• This year we're requiring everyone to pay for both Saturday and Sunday rounds prior to teeing off on Saturday.  No refunds will be provided for Sunday with the exception of an emergency (bad play on day 1 does not constitute an emergency).  If you declare ahead of the tournament you're only playing one of the two days, you will only be required to pay for 1 day.
• In order to be eligible for either the Net or Gross Club Championship title, you have to have played in a minimum of 3 other Men's Club Events prior to the Club Championship
• Pay as you Go players will be charged only (1) $15 fee.
• If you want to compete for the Gross Championship Title anyone is welcome to declare so but you must play from the Black Tees.

Registration for the 3^rd annual Flatirons Cup is now open, and we’re looking for a minimum of 16 players to compete for the Broadlands Men’s Golf Club.  This year’s event will be played at and hosted by Indian Peaks on September 23^rd and 24^th.

 

The purpose of the Flatirons Cup is to represent each men’s club in a friendly competitive format with other clubs and to provide a charitable benefit to a local non-profit organization.  The goal is to establish a long tradition of camaraderie, competitive golf, and giving back to the local community.

 

The cost of the event is $195 / player (not much different than the Broomfield Cup if you factor in green fees, shirt, and hat) and includes walking green fees for both days, money towards the team prize funds, money towards the charity in BMGC’s name, and closest to the pin competitions for every par 3 for both days.  There will also be an optional $10 cash skins game both Saturday and Sunday if you choose to participate.

 

The tournament is divided into 4 flights with format and handicap ranges shown below.  On tournament day, each flight is played “straight up” so you’d be competing against others within your flight without getting or giving any strokes.  Because of tight handicap flights and no strokes, it’s important that we fill our flights with the appropriate handicaps.

·         4 Players

·         Handicap range: 5.9 or below

·         Format: Stroke play with 3 of the 4 players’ scores count towards the team score

 

Flight B

·         4 Players

·         Handicap range: 6.0 – 9.9

·         Format: Stroke play with 3 of the 4 players’ scores count towards the team score

 

Flight C

·         4 Players

·         Handicap range: 10.0 - 13.9

·         Format: 2 Man Best Ball, both scores count towards the team score

 

Flight A

·         4 Players

·         Handicap range: 14.0 or greater

·         Format: 2 Man Scramble, both scores count towards the team score
